Changing our language is a tactic of the Left for a reason — it makes it harder to see and discuss the truth.
One of the most egregious recent examples is the use of the word “New Americans” to describe immigrants of all kinds, blurring the lines between such separate groups as exchange students and illegal immigrants. Labeling illegal immigrants as refugees, undocumented, DACA recipients, “New Americans,” asylum seekers, etc. does not benefit Utahns. Lumping legitimate political refugees with illegal immigrants only harms those who are lawful asylum seekers.
The conflation of these terms and the confusion it creates is intentional. Immigration policy needs to be nuanced, because not all immigrants are the same. Policy based on metaphor and shrouded in these terms that are invented by the Left and parroted by Spencer Cox undoubtedly leads to undesirable outcomes.
My immigration policy differentiates between legal immigration and illegal immigration. We must end our sanctuary state status, and stop allowing other states and cities to export their illegal immigrants to Utah. Spencer Cox is weak on illegal immigration, refusing to say no to illegal immigrants from Denver and other places.
Cox has allowed our state to become a destination for illegal immigrants because his policies incentivize their choosing Utah. The widespread impact hurts Utah families as the ripple effects are felt in the economy, our housing supply, and increasing crime. Intelligent policy balances compassion and compliance with the law.
Utah will always have a big heart, but that does not mean we neglect our citizens.
